Fire Prevention Day is October 9th! 🚒

Fire Prevention Week (October 6–12, 2025) is a fantastic time for your students to learn essential fire safety skills—all while staying active! As a PE teacher, you can make safety both memorable and entertaining.
Instead of confining discussions about fire safety to the classroom, bring it alive with Fire Prevention PE Stations. These stations allow students to practice vital fire safety skills in interactive and memorable ways that will resonate with them long after your lesson.
Why Teach Fire Safety in PE?
Every student should know fire safety, but simply listening in a classroom may not be enough. Connecting fire prevention lessons to physical activities ensures that students learn and practice these vital steps in real time. This approach is not only active and memorable but also promotes learning across subjects.
October is an excellent month to integrate safety into your lessons. Since Fire Prevention Week is a nationwide event, make it a key feature of your PE curriculum.

Here are 8 engaging, easy-to-implement Fire Prevention Week activities for your PE classes:

Sit In The Fire Truck 🚒Students practice wall sits or squats against the gym wall, or sit on folded panel mats to simulate “sitting in the fire truck.”
Keep Low Through The Smoke 💨Students army crawl under equipment. No tunnel? No problem! Use chairs with pool noodles laid across for a creative alternative.
Get Up The Ladder Fast 🪜Use an agility ladder or tape one onto the floor. Students practice fast footwork as they “climb the ladder.”
Carry The Hose 🧯Students take turns carrying a tug-of-war rope across the gym. Then reel it back in hand-over-hand just like pulling in a real fire hose.
Bring Everyone To Safety 🙌Carry a medicine ball (or other heavy equipment) across the gym. For groups, make it a relay where students carry multiple “people” (objects) to safety.
Stop, Drop, & Roll 🔥Classic practice! Students stop, drop, and roll across a panel mat.
Call Your Firefighter Dog 🐶Roll a hula hoop away, then pull it back quickly before it stops. Have students clap and call out: “Come here, Pup!”
Spray The Fire Extinguisher 🚨Stick a juggling scarf inside cones to act as “flames.” Students use a cone with a jump rope inside as their “extinguisher,” pretending to spray the fire. Or, make it a partner activity where they twist their core and pass the cone back-to-back.
